Holiday Dreams for Tots and Teens

This annual musical event draws talent from the surrounding community for the purpose of gathering toys for the less fortunate children attending Emerson Elementary School.

Emerson Elementary School

Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church has had a long relationship with Emerson Elementary School of the Seattle Public School District. Over the years, RBPC has supported the students and staff of Emerson through one-on-one tutoring, classroom assistants, preparation of Thanksgiving food baskets for needy families and supplying treats.

Senior Luncheon

On the 3rd Tuesday of every month, Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church hosts a Senior Luncheon with as many as 60 seniors in attendance on any given gathering. This is a wonderful time of fellowship for seniors of the community and provides a great opportunity for visiting with friends of other neighborhood churches.

One Great Hour of Sharing

Following the devastation of World War II, many parts of the world faced a desperate need for relief and reconstruction. In 1949, Church World Services helped launce the first coordinated, ecumenical drive to raise relief funds in the United States. Both Northern and Southern Presbyterians participated in the first "One Great Hour" campaign, tying national efforts to their own denominational relief programs.

Presbyterians helped sustain One Great Hour of Sharing during its early years. In late 1951, the new stated clerk of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., Eugene Carson Blake, embarked on a world tour to observe relief needs and report finding for the 1952 campaign.  Accompanied by David Proffitt, president of the National Council of Presbyterian Men, Blake traveled to Europe, the Middle East, India, and Asia. Their subsequent reports drew much attention to One Great hour of Sharing, both in local congregations and in the secular and religious press.

Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church supports One Great Hour of Sharing which falls on the Sunday closest to May 21, the date of the opening of the first General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. in 1789.
